About Pauline, SC
Pauline sits southeast of Woodruff toward the Union County line, and while it's one of the smallest communities on our map, we send the same 24/7 truck out here that we send anywhere else. It's a quiet, rural crossroads with just over 200 residents, so most of our calls come from long driveways, farm roads, and stretches of highway between here and Cross Anchor or Enoree. Whether it's a dead battery, a flat on a back road, or a tow into Woodruff for repair, we treat a call from Pauline with the same urgency as one from downtown. Given the distance from our home base, plan on a response in the 40 to 50 minute range.
The William Dixon Fowler House
Pauline was originally known as Stribling, but when the community needed a name for its new post office in the 1890s, 'Stribling' was already taken, so it took the name Pauline instead, after the postmaster's daughter. Built around 1901, the William Dixon Fowler House is a rare rural example of Queen Anne architecture in upstate South Carolina, with a wraparound porch, a porte-cochere, and a second-story turret set into the roofline. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.
